QR Protection by Dragon Labs
Last updated: July 18, 2026
QR Protection is a QR code scanner that checks web links for known safety threats before you open them. This page explains what happens to your data when you use the app.
The camera stays off until you tap Start Scanning. It is used only to read the QR code in front of it. The app does not save, upload, or transmit camera images or video, and it does not store your scan history on your device or anywhere else.
When a scanned QR code contains a web link, QR Protection sends that link over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to a Dragon Labs server running on Cloudflare Workers. That server asks VirusTotal's standard URL-checking service whether the link is associated with known malware, phishing, or other threats, and returns a safety result to the app before you decide whether to open the link.
Only the link itself is sent for this check. The app does not attach your name, account, device identifier, advertising identifier, or location to the request. Cloudflare, as the network provider handling the request, may briefly retain ordinary connection information (such as an IP address) as part of its standard infrastructure logs. VirusTotal may retain submitted links and share them with its security-research partners and community as part of its normal service, so we recommend not scanning links you would prefer to keep private.
QR Protection does not require an account, does not collect your name, email, contacts, or precise location, does not access your photo library, and does not use advertising identifiers or third-party ad or analytics tracking. Nothing you do in the app is used to track you across other companies' apps or websites.
QR Protection is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
QR Protection itself does not keep a history of scanned links. Any temporary retention of request information by Cloudflare or VirusTotal is governed by those providers' own practices as described above.
